Redskins running back Derrius Guice has an MCL sprain, is placed on injured reserve

The Washington Post reports on Washington Redskins' running back Derrius Guice who was placed on injured reserve after spraining his MCL.

Samuel A. Taylor, MD, sports medicine surgeon at HSS, who hasn't treated Guice, explains that sprains are typically considered a low-grade injury when compared to a high-grade tear. Additionally, surgery is typically required less often for MCL injuries. "The MCL, unlike the ACL, has a high degree of healing potential on its own," he states.
