Here's the Difference Between Flexibility and Mobility - and Why It Matters
U.S. News & World Report featured HSS physical therapist Cara Ann Senicola, PT, DPT, OCS, USATF-L1, CYT, who explained the differences between flexibility and mobility.
Senicola noted that mobility is the ability of a joint to actively move through its intended range of motion.
Flexibility is the ability of a muscle to stretch, the article reported.
"In order to have good joint mobility, muscle flexibility is imperative. But there is a misconception that lack of mobility is only due to muscular flexibility limitations, or a muscle losing natural length," said Senicola.
She added that a person can have great flexibility, but still have poor mobility.
To improve mobility, Senicola recommended training the body's stabilizing muscles, performing exercises that take your joints through a full range of motion and consciously working to improve posture
