What we know about the injury to Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert

Cincinnati Enquirer featured HSS foot and ankle surgeon Mark C. Drakos, MD, in an article about Cincinnati Bengals' Tyler Eifert who suffered a broken ankle.

Dr. Drakos, who did not treat Eifert, explained that the recovery time from a broken ankle is typically four to five months.

"Usually, it takes about six weeks for bones to heal. If there's ligament damage, that takes one to two months. Then you can do some activities in a boot and biking at that point. By three months or so [the athlete] should hopefully be out of the boot and start doing light activity," said Dr. Drakos.
