Trump Pushes Lupus-Coronavirus Study, But The Evidence Is Mixed

Daily Caller reports that scientific evidence to support hydroxychloroquine being used for COVID-19 is mixed. Lupus advocacy groups say that there is no evidence that the drug can protect against COVID-19 while two rheumatologists note that their lupus patients have low rates of COVID-19.

On a teleconference with Lupus Research Alliance, Mary K. Crow, MD, chief of the Division of Rheumatology at HSS, explains that the “anecdotal experience is that many more presumably healthy people are developing infections with COVID-19 than we’ve seen in our lupus patients or rheumatoid arthritis patients”.

She adds that she believes lupus patients are being very careful as they have compromised immune systems.
