HealthCentral discusses the benefits of pool therapy for rheumatoid arthritis and includes guidance from experts including Vivian P. Bykerk, BSc, MD, FRCPC, rheumatologist at HSS.

According to Dr. Bykerk, “In the 1970s, before we had effective drugs, the main therapy for rheumatoid arthritis was pool therapy.”

The article recommends movements to do in the pool to soothe rheumatoid arthritis.  

The article recommends a leg swing and skateboard combo by holding onto the edge of the pool with the right hand for support. “Complex exercises like these strengthen multiple muscle groups—legs, hips, and core—and build mobility,” noted Dr. Bykerk.
