Slowed and sidelined, some athletes struggle to return from long-haul covid

DiFiori, MD, FACSM, chief of Primary Sports Medicine at HSS, comments on the challenges that athletes with long-haul COVID-19 face when returning to play. “This absolutely is not a typical viral infection,” noted Dr. DiFiori. “It’s really difficult to know why certain complications occur in some individuals and not in others, and why certain individuals may take longer to recover in general than others. You can be young and healthy, and you can still struggle with it,” he added.
