How Feasible is Treat-to-Target in Rheumatoid Arthritis?

MedPage Today reports on a new study that tested the feasibility of a treat-to-target approach used in rheumatoid arthritis treatment. The study also looked at why progress assessments may differ between patients and practitioners and concluded that practitioners base progress on composite scores while patients may be using more practical applications.

HSS rheumatologist Vivian P. Bykerk, BSc, MD, FRCPC, who was not involved in the study, commented that most patients may want to change their treatment plan if they are aware that they have not yet reached minimal targets in their goal of low-disease activity. 

"In rheumatology, managing a chronic disease requires a strong MD-patient relationship with open ability to communicate," said Dr. Bykerk.
