Dr. Steve Magid, CMIO at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City

In this Becker’s Healthcare podcast episode, Steven K. Magid, MD, chief medical information officer and rheumatologist at HSS, discussed the support HSS provided during the COVID-19 pandemic by transforming into a multispecialty hospital, implementing new quality and safety measures to treat critically ill patients regardless of their COVID status.

He explained the areas of focus this year including the creation of a digital experience for pre-patients. “We [HSS] want to connect with every person we serve digitally, if we can, and take them through the entire experience of a pre-patient,” noted Dr. Magid. “Giving wellness advice, rehab, exercises for athletic injuries if they become a patient. Then making sure that we’re engaging them through electronic means to send them questionnaires, risk assessments. And taking them through the entire patient experience if they need surgery - rehab and telehealth follow ups.”

Dr. Magid advised clinicians and IT executives in healthcare to put patients at the center of all that you do and to remain agile to respond promptly to change.
