Consumer Reports addresses the dangers of opioid use, highlighting the latest research on supplements, exercises, sleep and more as relief for those living with chronic pain. Cases requiring surgeries or injections are also discussed.

Consumer Reports spoke to Lisa A. Mandl, MD, MPH, rheumatologist at HSS, to talk about corticosteroid injections to treat painful joints to reduce inflammation, who said, “These shots don’t speed healing, but they can provide modest short-term relief. These ‘can be an excellent stopgap measure’ if a pain flare-up is keeping you from moving.”
