Seeing a Rheumatologist for Rheumatoid Arthritis: What to Know Before Your First Visit

CreakyJoints.org features suggested tips to help people make the most of their first visit to a rheumatologist after a diagnosis with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

CreakyJoints.org spoke to Vivian Bykerk, BSc, MD, FRCPC, rheumatologist at HSS, who explained, “If the correct treatment can be started within two to three months, then the prognosis for achieving remission is much better.”

Dr. Bykerk advised people to think about how to best describe their symptoms in a clear detailed manner; consider bringing a friend or family member along to take notes; and to become an active participant in their care.
