Do you sometimes taste blood when working out? Here’s what might be happening.

The Washington Post discusses the reasons for experiencing a bloody or metallic taste in the mouth after vigorous physical exercise with experts including James N. Robinson, MD, sports medicine physician at HSS.

According to Dr. Robinson, the taste of blood during or after a workout is generally associated with exercise intensity and duration as well as certain environmental conditions.

Because this metallic taste could be a sign of overworking, Dr. Robinson noted, “If anything you should probably back off a little bit and not try to reach that point.”
