CTV News in Canada interviews Canadians Alana C. Serota, MD, CCFP, CCD, physician in the Department of Metabolic Bone Disease at HSS, and David J. Mayman, MD, hip and knee surgeon at HSS, on their experience with COVID-19 in New York.

When asked about the spike in New York, Dr. Serota explains that it is not unexpected. “Our hospital and city have been prepared for and expecting this at this time,” she says.

Dr. Mayman explains how HSS has shifted away from a specialty orthopedic hospital in a short period of time.

“We’ve transformed our hospital over the past2 weeks to be overflow capacity for NewYork-Presbyterian. We initially started decanting them taking their non-COVID-19 patients. Now we’re at a point where we have their COVID patients as well,” he says.

‘We’ve transformed to be part of the solution,” adds Dr. Mayman.
