Braces or splints can also be helpful. While these can be purchased over the counter, Dr. Dowdle recommends consulting a hand specialist before you invest in one because some are more effective than others and it depends on your specific needs.

In addition, Dr. Dowdle recommends at-home paraffin baths to people with arthritis in their hands.
