Why Your Heels Actually Hurt

Furthermore reports on different types of heel pain and their various causes.

"Heel pain is the great imposter," explains Rock G. Positano, DPM, MSc, MPH, director of the non-surgical Foot and Ankle Service at HSS.

Dr. Positano's research has found that the majority of people with plantar heel pain had a plantar fascia tear. You may be more prone to this issue if you have a high arch.

Dr. Positano also evaluates other conditions such as plantar fibroma. "The pain usually comes on without warning, sometimes after wearing a tight shoe," he says.
