Why I Got Burnt Out From Running—and How I’m Learning to Love It Again

Reporter Danielle Zickl writes a feature for Runner’s World about her experience swearing off running after going all in. She explains that she spoke to Deborah N. Roche, PhD, sports psychologist at HSS, to try to understand her situation.

“Everyone is on their own trajectory, especially since running is so individual,” Dr. Roche had said. “You have to figure out your own intention of why you run in the first place. Are you out there to stay fit? To clear your head? Do you want to improve your times? Do you want to qualify for a major race?”

Dr. Roche explained how to redefine success to help with frustrations that may arise.
