What You Need to Know About ACL Surgery

Bicycling Magazine discusses what patients can anticipate when undergoing anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery according to experts including HSS sports medicine surgeon Moira M. McCarthy, MD.

Dr. McCarthy explained ACL reconstruction surgery involves taking something else and creating a new ligament out of it. It’s also expected to experience some level of pain or discomfort following the procedure. According to Dr. McCarthy, its common to encounter anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks of postoperative pain as you work to reduce the amount of swelling in the knee and start to regain range of motion.
