Outside Run reports that a growing number of athletes are embracing the concept of cycle syncing, an approach that suggests that your menstrual cycle isn’t a hindrance to be pushed through, but rather a powerful, somewhat predictable rhythm that can be harnessed to optimize athletic performance.
Cycle syncing is the concept of adjusting your training, exercise, workout, or sports performance across the menstrual cycle, explained Ellen Casey, MD, CAQSM, FACSM, physiatrist, at HSS. “The idea is to try to identify times when it might be best to do certain types of exercise or allow for more recovery, for example, at different points in the menstrual cycle,” she said.
