What Every Runner Needs to Know About Piriformis Syndrome

Runner's World featured HSS primary care sports medicine physician Jordan D. Metzl, MD, who addressed piriformis syndrome, in an article about how to identify, prevent and treat the condition.  

According to the article, piriformis syndrome occurs when the piriformis muscle in the glutes contracts and compresses the nerve.

To prevent the condition, Dr. Metzl recommended performing exercises such as jump squats, squats with weights, and plyometric lunges.
