What Are Peptides? HSS Sports Medicine Physician Explains the Benefits, Risks and What Patients Should Know
In a recent Washington Post column, Jordan D. Metzl, MD, sports medicine physician at HSS, explained that while some peptide-based medications, have been extensively studied and shown meaningful benefits, many other peptides being promoted for recovery, performance and longevity lack robust human research.
Dr. Metzl cautioned that promising results in laboratory studies or clinical models do not necessarily translate to proven benefits or long-term safety in people. While some peptide therapies may ultimately play an important role in preventive medicine and healthy aging, he emphasized the need for more rigorous research and evidence before widespread adoption.
