Rock G. Positano, DPM, MSc, MPH, DSc, director of Non-Surgical Foot and Ankle Services at HSS, cautioned against wearing transparent footwear in an interview with Vogue. 

The foot by itself [without a sock] in a shoe, plastic or not, provides a perfect milieu for fungal growth,” explained Dr. Positano. “It is moist, dark and there is heat. The combination of those three things make a foot inside a shoe a dangerous place.” Isn’t danger just another way of saying… “temptation?”
