Healio reports that The American College of Rheumatology and EULAR have released the first updated classification criteria for antiphospholipid syndrome since 2006, raising specificity from 86% to 99%. The new guidelines require at least one positive antiphospholipid antibody test within three years of a related clinical event and use weighted clinical and laboratory domains to improve accuracy. Developed through a rigorous international effort, the criteria reflect advances in understanding APS manifestations and risk stratification. “These modern, weighted criteria provide high specificity and a stronger foundation for APS research,” said Medha Barbhaiya, MD, MPH, rheumatologist at HSS.
