The Shoe Cushioning Paradox
Equinox's Furthermore blog reported on a recent study that found that runners who wore heavily cushioned shoes experienced more force and impact on the joints.
"The goal of healthy running is to hit the ground as softly as possible," said HSS primary care sports medicine physician Jordan D. Metzl, MD, who was not involved in the study.
According to the article, taking shorter steps while running minimizes impact.
Dr. Metzl explained that more cushioning encourages longer strides, making a runner more likely to land heel first.
