The impact of autoimmune disease on women
New research from HSS led by Lucy Masto, BS; Caroline Siegel, MD, MS; Sanjana Adurty, BA; and senior authors Medha Barbhaiya, MD, MPH, and Lisa Sammaritano, MD, highlights key reproductive health challenges for women with autoimmune rheumatic diseases, including menstrual‑cycle–related flares, low HPV vaccination rates, and misconceptions about contraception. The team also found that assisted reproductive technologies such as egg freezing and IVF can offer important options for patients facing fertility concerns.
