The Case for Continuous Nerve Blocks

Outpatient Surgery Magazine featured a bylined article by HSS anesthesiologist Stavros G. Memtsoudis, MD, PhD, who addressed the efficacy of continuous nerve blocks (CNBs) on surgical sites for prolonged pain control after surgery.

Dr. Memtsoudis explained that CNBs manage pain more effectively than painkillers, and are a way to help patients without resorting to opioids.

"Recent developments are certain to increase the trend toward CNBs, the most notable being the increasing popularity of same-day total joint replacements," Dr. Memtsoudis wrote.
