THA implant stiffness associated with imaging, histological findings

Healio features Sara E. Sacher, research engineer at HSS who spoke about flexural rigidity of total hip arthroplasty implants with differing imagine and histological features at the Orthopaedic Research Society Annual Meeting.

“A lower flexural rigidity may allow these hip implants with modular connections to have increased micromotion, which can lead to fretting and corrosion,” she explained. “These corrosion products can lead to inflammatory tissue responses and potentially early need for revision surgery,” Sacher added.
