]]>Carl Banks, two time Super Bowl Champion with the New York Giants, appears on Giants Access Blue to discuss the injuries he has endured during his career. Banks explains the most significant injury he encountered was during the 1990 Super Bowl against the Dallas Cowboys, when he dislocated his wrist. Banks went to HSS for reconstructive surgery performed by Russell Warren, MD, sports medicine surgeon at HSS, and also received treatment from Andrew J. Weiland, MD, hand and upper extremity surgeon at HSS, for an infection he developed following the surgery.

Weiland, MD, who addressed Golden State Warriors' Klay Thompson's recent thumb fracture.

Dr. Weiland, who did not treat Thompson, explained that fractures typically take four to five weeks to heal.

Additionally, he noted that immobilizing the thumb with a "hand-based splint" is the best way to treat thumb injuries.

"It should heal up. When it's finally healed, it'll be 100 percent," said Dr. Weiland.
