Super Bowl 2018 injuries: Doctor says extra week is major benefit for Patriots' Rob Gronkowski

NJ.com featured Scott A. Rodeo, MD, sports medicine surgeon at HSS, in an article about New York Patriots' Rob Gronkowski's recent concussion.

Dr. Rodeo, who did not treat Gronkowski, discussed the likelihood of Gronkowski's recovery in time for the upcoming Super Bowl, which is one week away.

"That extra week should let him recover because sometimes it takes a player more than a week. So it's very helpful," said Dr. Rodeo.

As a team physician for the Giants, Dr. Rodeo shared his insight on treating athletes for injuries during a championship game. "Obviously the players' health and safety come first, but our job as the team physician like any time of the year, whether it's Week 1 or Week 20, is to educate the players about their injuries so they can make an informed decision. But at this point for a game like this, they may play with some injuries and our job is to help them understand what the risk would be and if there are any long-term issues," he said.
