Severity of Carson Wentz's back injury still unknown

Associated Press reports that Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz has a fractured vertebra but the exact details remain unknown.

Andrew A. Sama, MD, spine surgeon at HSS, who has not treated Wentz, explains that breaks in the spine can be considered stable or unstable.

"If considered unstable, these breaks usually require surgery to stabilize the spine to allow healing. Stable breaks are usually treated with rest and sometimes bracing," says Dr. Sama.
