Scott J. Ellis, MD, Installed as AOFAS® President
New York Orthopaedic Surgeon to Serve Leading Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society
Foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeon, Scott J. Ellis, MD, was named President of the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS), the leading organization for the surgical and nonoperative treatment of the foot, ankle, and lower extremity. In addition to leading the Society as president, Dr. Ellis will serve on the Board of Directors of the Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Foundation, the philanthropic arm of AOFAS.
As president of the 2,600-member society, Dr. Ellis plans to support initiatives to collaborate with orthopaedic societies and federations around the world. In addition, Dr. Ellis will focus on recruiting orthopaedic residents into foot and ankle to grow the subspecialty and the AOFAS. The education and training for a foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeon consist of four years of medical school, five years of postgraduate residency, and a fellowship year of specialized surgical training.

Dr. Ellis earned his medical degree from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. He completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery and his fellowship in orthopaedic foot and ankle surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York.
Currently, Dr. Ellis is a foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeon at HSS and full professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College. He credits his success to his many colleagues and mentors over the years including Jonathan T. Deland, MD, Martin J. O’Malley, MD, Matthew M. Roberts, MD, and David S. Levine, MD.
Prior to being elected President, Dr. Ellis served as President-Elect, Vice President, Treasurer, and Member-at-Large on the AOFAS Board of Directors; and President of the Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Foundation Board of Directors. He previously chaired the AOFAS Young Physicians Committee and Program Committee.
Outside of his involvement with the AOFAS, Dr. Ellis is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), New York State Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons, New York County Medical Society, and the American Medical Association.
