Redskins' Reed feeling better after removal of toe bones

The Associated Press reported that Washington Redskins' Jordan Reed recently had each of his sesamoid bones removed to treat his toe fractures.

HSS foot and ankle surgeon Mark C. Drakos, MD, who did not treat Reed, noted that sesamoid removal surgery is typically the final treatment option.

He explained that if bones break and don't heal then "we'll go in and fix them with plates and screws".

"They're very little bones. These are so small that a lot of times we just take it out because it's quicker. It's a quicker recovery," said Dr. Drakos.
