Medpage Today reports on the results of a small study highlighting the potential benefit of apremilast for the treatment of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis induced by immune checkpoint inhibitors, a well-known cancer immunotherapy.

Nilasha Ghosh, MD, rheumatologist at HSS served as first author of the study, which appears in Arthritis Care & Research. Dr. Ghosh recently discussed the findings. 

According to Dr. Ghosh, adverse effects were similar to those in large-scale studies, though discontinuation was slightly higher. This is also a population with other factors that contribute to side effects (GI upset), such as cancer and/or other treatments, so attribution to the drug alone is not possible.
