Podcast on Association of Multimodal Pain Management Strategies with Perioperative Outcomes and Resource Utilization

Anesthesiology interviewed HSS anesthesiologist Stavros G. Memtsoudis, MD, PhD, on-air to discuss about his recent study, Association of Multimodal Pain Management Strategies with Perioperative Outcomes and Resource Utilization: A Population-based Study.

"The purpose of this study was to identify the utilization patterns of multimodal pain management in patients undergoing joint arthroplasty in the United States," said Dr. Memtsoudis.

Dr. Memtsoudis explained that multimodal pain management improves pain control while also lowering the use of opioids and adverse effects.

Findings indicated that patients who received more than two modes experienced fewer complications and length of hospital stay.
