Orthopedic Care in the Face of COVID-19: HSS Florida Initiatives

Palm Beach Society reports HSS Florida quickly adapted its approach to provide continued care for patients amid the COVID-19 pandemic, noting the suspension of all non-essential surgeries as of March 20 to prioritize patient safety and expand urgent orthopedic care capacity. HSS Florida is maintaining essential surgical and non-surgical treatments and procedures where treatment is time-sensitive for medical reasons, and has developed a list of conditions and treatments that are considered essential currently available on the HSS website. To avoid physical appointments where possible, HSS has also expanded its Virtual Care capabilities – making it easy for patients to connect with a clinician from their smartphone, computer or tablet.

Ryan W. Simovitch, MD, Associate Medical Director for Ambulatory Services at HSS Florida cited, “We’re safeguarding our patients and the community, and continually evaluating our policies and rolling out new digital offerings to help people maintain their musculoskeletal wellness under these temporary challenging circumstances.”
