Nine NY hospitals rank high for patient safety and experience: Healthgrades

Crain's Health Plus highlights a new Healthgrades report which found ten hospitals scored high for patient safety, eight for patient experience, and only one, HSS, was a dual honor recipient.

Healthgrades collected information on hundreds of hospitals throughout the country and ranked 419 of them highly for patient experience indicators, and 445 received high rankings for keeping patients safe during their stays. The patient experience rankings are based on a Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services survey instrument in which patients report on their communication with doctors and nurses at their hospital, and whether they would recommend the facility.

Healthgrades analyzed 14 patient safety indicators to rank hospitals; each indicator represents a serious but potentially preventable complication, such as sepsis. To be ranked, hospitals had to meet clinical quality thresholds, have zero instances in which a foreign object was left behind after a procedure, and have data on at least seven out of eight core indicators.
