NBA and COVID-19: How the league's protocols are monitored and enforced

Houston Chronicle reports on how the NBA is monitoring COVID-19 as the league starts the 2020-2021 season.

John P. DiFiori, MD, FACSM, chief of Primary Sports Medicine at HSS, is part of a group that examines test results each morning. Right now, the Houston Rockets have been hardest hit by the virus; that doesn't mean they are the exception in the league, they could simply be the first.

Dr. DiFiori explains that they fully expect to continue to have infections develop.

“We have players living in their communities. We have a pandemic that every day is at its current height with no leveling in sight. We can do our best to implement measures to reduce the risk of becoming infected, but I don’t believe any of us believe that is realistic," said Dr. DiFiori, who is also the director of Sports Medicine for the NBA.
