Muscle & Fitness featured HSS primary care sports medicine physician Jordan D. Metzl, MD, in an article about preventing muscle cramps.
"The most common cause of muscle cramps tends to be something nutritional. In order to combat these deficiencies you need to make sure you're being nutritionally smart," said Dr. Metzl.
The article recommended incorporating salty foods during exercise in order maintain enough electrolytes.
Additionally, Dr. Metzl explained that activity overload could also cause cramps. He advised using a foam roller before a workout to increase flexibility.
