Morning Stiffness in RA: A Close Look for Answers

MedPage Today features new study by Susan M. Goodman, MD, rheumatologist at HSS, that found that increased understanding of the clinical and synovial histologic patterns associated with morning stiffness in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) may help provide insights into the pathology of disease manifestation.

Published in Arthritis & Rheumatology, the study showed that among patients whose synovial histologic analysis revealed the presence and interaction of fibrin and neutrophils, 73% reported morning stiffness of over an hour.

“We are only starting to understand why RA patients feel the way they do,” says Dr. Goodman.
