Mid-calf nerve block promotes fast recovery after total ankle replacement
Healio interviews Enrique A. Goytizolo, MD, anesthesiologist at HSS about a study using a mid-calf nerve block for patients undergoing foot and ankle surgery, specifically total ankle replacement.
This new block provides anesthesia and analgesia to foot and ankle surgeries and preserves motor function of the ankle joint.
“What this new block is allowing us is opening the door for a new opportunity for a fast-track, early rehabilitation for patients with foot surgery, especially total ankle replacements,” he said. “The surgeons are excited for this because we are breaking ground here, ”Dr. Goytizolo concluded.
