Michael L. Parks, MD, FAAOS, named treasurer of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ Board of Directors

American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) announces Michael L. Parks, MD, FAAOS, hip and knee surgeon at HSS, was named treasurer of the Board of Directors. Dr. Parks will assume the new position following the 2022 Annual Meeting in Chicago, IL. The treasurer serves as chair (and is one of three voting members) of the Finance Committee, which oversees the fiscal health of the academy with more than 39,000 members.

Dr. Parks is noted for leading several research projects at HSS, with a particular interest in socioeconomic and racial disparities in access to arthritis care and total joint replacement surgery. His research has published numerous journal articles related to joint replacement outcomes and racial differences.

He was previously on the Board of Directors for both AAOS and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), and as an active member of AAOS, he has served on the Annual Meeting Committee, Board of Councilors, and chair of the Resolutions Committee.
