Medical school partners with universities, hospitals to study rare autoimmune disease

The GW Hatchet reported that a group of universities and hospitals, including HSS, are partnering to research treatment options for scleroderma patients.

HSS rheumatologist and principal investigator Jessica K. Gordon, MD, said researchers for the partnership cohort are specifically looking at early-stage patients with the autoimmune disease with the goal of creating a registry and a systematic way of collecting uniform clinical data.

"It is really important for us, clinicians and scientists, to come together collaboratively to study these types of illnesses. This enables us to study larger numbers of patients to obtain adequate power and advance our understanding of the disease," she added.
