Lawrence Gulotta named head team orthopedist

MLB.com reports Lawrence V. Gulotta, MD, chief of the Shoulder and Elbow Division at the HSS Sports Medicine Institute, has been named the Head Team Orthopedist of the New York Mets.

Dr. Gulotta will join Medical Director, David W. Altchek, MD, and Head Team Physician Kathryn D. McElheny, MD, in facilitating the orthopedic coverage of the New York Mets Baseball organization.

Dr. Gulotta has dedicated his career to understanding and treating shoulder conditions. He has performed research on new ways to improve rotator cuff healing, as well as ways to improve the design and performance of shoulder replacements. He has received several awards for his research, authored numerous clinical and basic science research papers, and given presentations at national and international meetings.

Throughout his career, Dr. Gulotta served as Head Team Physician for the New York Guardians of the XFL, and as an Assistant Physician for the New York Football Giants, Iona College Athletics, the FDNY semi-professional Football Team, and the New York City Public Schools Athletic League.
