Kids in Sports: What to Know Now

Serendipity featured HSS sports medicine surgeon Moira M. McCarthy, MD, in an article about preventing sports injuries in youth athletes.

Dr. McCarthy explained that it's not beneficial for a child to focus on one sport year round.

"It's better for them to use different muscle groups to be sure they're well rounded in athletics - and they'll be more likely to stay injury- and pain-free because they'll be less likely to have overuse injuries," said Dr. McCarthy.

She added that teams should incorporate strength training and stretches into every workout.
