Healio/Orthopedics Today reported on a recent HSS study that found Journavx for postoperative pain may be well tolerated in patients undergoing orthopedic surgery, featuring insight from Faye Rim, MD, FAAPMR, a physiatrist and pain management specialist within the department of anesthesiology, critical care and pain management at HSS.

“[This is] going to become more widely used,” said Dr. Rim. “It is getting adopted quickly and we have to have a better understanding of how it works within our arsenal of our usual postoperative pain medication regimens.” 

“Our basis for the study was to get a background for how the medication was being utilized within our institution and to see what the overall tolerability of the medication was,” Dr. Rim explained. “We are hoping to do further studies with this medication to see if it will affect opiate utilization across the board and how effective it is going to be in controlling patient’s pain compared with our current standard of care.”
