HIIT: Jordan Metzl explains benefits of a high-intensity workout

Jordan D. Metzl, MD, primary care sports medicine physician at HSS, appeared on TODAY and explained the benefits of workouts of various intensities.

Dr. Metzl discussed newly released recommendations from the American College of Sports Medicine, detailing how long people should be working out each week. “30 minutes 5 times a week, or 30 minutes of intense exercise 3 times a week. Those are guidelines for adult exercise,” said Dr. Metzl.

Furthermore, Dr. Metzl expressed his liking for high intensity interval training, citing, “It’s a great bang for your buck, and it seems to ramp up your metabolism, too.”
