ASC News spoke with Bryan Kelly, MD, MBA, President and CEO of HSS, and Michael Ast, MD, Chief Medical Innovation Officer and Director of ASC Strategy at HSS, about the institution's national expansion and the future of outpatient musculoskeletal care.
Dr. Kelly emphasized that HSS’s growth strategy is grounded in its longstanding mission. “Our commitment is to protect and extend our focus on clinical excellence,” he said. “And really to hopefully play a part in elevating the quality of musculoskeletal care across the country.”
Dr. Ast underscored the importance of maintaining rigor as more complex procedures move into ambulatory settings. “The biggest risk is the misinterpretation of the value formula,” he shared. “People start to think that the only driver of the increasing utilization of outpatient resources is to lower cost. What happens is they keep lowering costs, they keep lowering costs in a race to the bottom, and they affect the quality of care.”
