HSS Research Institute Welcomes Michael Parides, PhD, as Senior Clinical Research Scientist and Director of the Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Program

HSS announces Michael Parides, PhD, has been appointed to Senior Clinical Research Scientist and Director of the Biostatistics and Bioinformatics program in the HSS Research Institute (HSSRI). In this newly established role, he will focus his efforts on designing musculoskeletal-related clinical research studies and other academic activities in the HSSRI, including overseeing the operations of the Biostatistics and Clinical Data Analytics Cores, and developing the infrastructure required to advance the HSSRI clinical research mission. 

Dr. Parides will develop a program that will include biostatistics, epidemiology, bioinformatics, big data development, and machine learning as it relates to clinical research. He will also recruit additional faculty, participate in collaborative research activities with faculty from HSS clinical services and departments, and mentor residents, fellows, students, and interns who participate in research studies.

Dr. Parides is an internationally renowned biostatistician with specific interest and expertise in the design, analysis, and execution of multicenter clinical trials, especially those evaluating medical devices and surgical procedures. Previously, he served as the principal statistician for several landmark National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded multi-center clinical trials and was a Principal Investigator of the Data Coordinating Center (DCC) for the Cardiothoracic Clinical Trials Network (CTSN).

He has authored nearly 200 manuscripts, many in leading medical and statistical journals including numerous publications in the New England Journal of Medicine and The Lancet and has been an invited speaker at numerous academic conferences worldwide.
