HSS has been recognized by The Myositis Association (TMA) with its 2026 Heroes in Healthcare Award, honoring the HSS Scleroderma, Vasculitis and Myositis Center for its leadership in patient care, research and support services for individuals living with myositis.

The award will be presented during MyoCon 2026, TMA's annual Global Myositis Patient Conference.

TMA recognized HSS for its comprehensive approach to caring for patients with myositis, a rare group of autoimmune muscle diseases. The Center combines specialized clinical care with research and patient support programs designed to help individuals and families navigate the challenges of living with these complex conditions.

The organization also highlighted the HSS Myositis Support Group, which continues to provide education, encouragement and community for patients and care partners nearly three decades later.

The award will be accepted on behalf of HSS by rheumatologist David R. Fernandez, MD, PhD, and Suzan Fischbein, LCSW, Myositis Support Group Coordinator and Senior Social Work Coordinator II.

The Heroes in Healthcare Award recognizes organizations that have made a meaningful impact on the lives of people living with myositis through exceptional care, innovation and community support.
