HSS Hires Green Beret to Support Staff Wellness and Resilience

OrthoSpineNews reports Green Beret Steve Forti, who served more than 23 years in the United States Army Special Forces, provided wellness support to HSS frontline staff through the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the weeks to follow, HSS leadership has implemented a dedicated multidisciplinary council to offer continued support for staff to be facilitated by Forti, in his appointment as Chief Wellness & Resiliency Officer.

On Forti’s appointment, Bryan, T. Kelly, MD, MBA, surgeon-in-chief and medical director at HSS, noted, “In the heat of the moment of the pandemic, Steve was able to personalize our commitment to wellness with support our caregivers found to be effective and reassuring." Louis A. Shapiro, president and CEO at HSS, added, “In Steve Forti we found rare depth of expertise in helping highly skilled teams achieve wellness before, during and after complex, unpredictable and consequential circumstances. Coupled with the experience of his contribution through the outbreak, he was the obvious choice for the formal ongoing role of Chief Wellness & Resiliency Officer.”

On joining HSS, Forti cited, “To be able to play a helpful role at a time like this is truly a gift. The leadership at HSS is very forward thinking and always strives to do its best for their people.”
