Duretti Fufa, MD, hand and upper extremity surgeon at HSS, provided safety tips to consider for preventing hand injuries while carving pumpkins.

Dr. Fufa suggested using a carving kit that’s designed for pumpkins, to use a sawing motion and to never cut toward the hand. Additionally, she advised to never put the hand inside the pumpkin while carving.
