CBS New York reported that the Adaptive Sports Academy at HSS and Endeavor Therapeutic Horsemanship hosted a horseback riding day for pediatric patients in Mount Kisco, NY.

According to the segment, horse therapy has a multitude of medical benefits for children with physical disabilities.

HSS physical therapist Michelle Yang PT, DPT, who was on-site during the event, said "the rhythmic pattern that the way that horses move mimics the way that we as humans walk. That side-to-side motion and forward and backward movement that horses have kind of help to relax the body. It helps kids actually carry it over walking normally over the ground."

11-year-old patient Edwin Torres said "I think it's more fun to do it on a horse because it's like you're doing exercises while you're going to your destination."

Additionally, parents enjoyed seeing the positive effects of the therapy on their children.

"She's able to control her body, control her upper body, control her legs, and a very important component is for her to listen, follow the instructions, then pay attention to where she's going," said mother Andrea McDonald after watching her daughter Brooklyn ride.
